A Flying Lesson and Goblins

It's been rainy where we live in Texas, so here are two pictures my husband Stephen took a few days ago. I guess little fairies must learn to fly. I wonder if they are born with wings or if their wings grow in later?

My kids have long thought fairies live in this hole (which is quite deep) but no, there are goblins in there! When Stephen surprised them with this picture, they hissed, made some very rude sounds, and threw clumps of moss--or at least I hope it was moss.

Saturday's Sightings

We took these on the weekend, and I'm only now posting them on Tuesday. I suppose that shows just how upside down our house is. We have great support from the kid's teachers, but learning at home is definitely still a challenge. Anyway... isn't this fairy a delight? We were happy to see her resting on the slide because at least someone's enjoying our local playground (its wrapped in caution tape.) At first I thought she was a bluebell fairy, but bluebells tend to be a violet blue and this fairy is more of a sky blue. I wish I had a copy of Miss Fernby's Fairy Compendium, but it's sadly out of print. My Great Auntie M used to have one, and since she passed away, I'm not sure where it ended up.

Can you see the fairies in this picture? They blend in with the leaves. If you are having trouble spotting them, look directly above the top, far corner of the bench. You might think it's amazing they let me creep up as close as I did, but it's only because they were having some sort of argument. Seconds after I took this picture, they flew off making sounds that I can only describe as someone furiously jingling tiny bells. They look green here, but in person, they were bright yellow. The kids think they are dandelion fairies.

H also found this itty-bitty shoe in a circular hollow in the rocks lining the river. The kids suspect it's a fairy meeting place, and I have to agree that it's an ideal place for tiny creatures to gather. We didn't take the shoe. Its owner will surely come looking for it.

Besides, if the fairies think we're stealing their shoes, who knows what sort of tricks they'll play on us.

Common Garden Fairy #1

A common garden fairy... at least I think that's what this little guy is. I decided to start a hobby while in quarantine, and fairy spotting seemed like a nice break from my other projects & checking the news too much. I was hoping to spot a rose fairy, but I didn't see any. I suppose they are rare, and I probably need nicer roses to attract them. I'm pretty pleased with this picture even though it's blurry. My kids couldn't find the fairy in it until I pointed him out, so if you can't see the fairy either, he's running along the window ledge.
